Supporting a fast-growing solar specialist in finding the right strategic partner.

Founded in 2018, Low Energy quickly established itself as a leading commercial solar installation specialists, delivering high-quality solar PV and battery storage solutions to businesses across the country.

The company built an excellent reputation for technical expertise, customer service and delivering tailored renewable energy solutions, helping organisations reduce both energy costs and carbon emissions.

Having experienced rapid growth, the shareholder began considering the long-term future of the business and sought a partner capable of building on the strong foundations already in place while preserving the company’s culture and values.

“Joining Good Energy Group feels like a fantastic next step for the company. We share a future-aligned approach focused on quality and customer trust at the centre.”

Jason Lowey, Founder, Low Energy

Advising on a strategic sale to support continued growth

The client instructed KBS Corporate to explore the market and identify an acquirer capable of taking Low Energy into its next phase of development.

Alongside achieving an excellent financial outcome, the shareholder wanted to ensure the business would continue to thrive, employees would be well supported, and the culture that had driven the company’s success would be maintained.

Sean Clarkson, Deal Executive at KBS Corporate, led the transaction, managing a competitive sale process while providing strategic advice throughout. The wider K3 Advisory Group also supported the deal, with K3 Law advising on the legal aspects of the transaction and K3 Tax providing specialist advice regarding an EMI scheme matter identified during due diligence.

Throughout the process, KBS Corporate coordinated weekly meetings between Low Energy and Good Energy, managed a structured data room and negotiated the transaction terms to secure the strongest possible outcome for our client.

“I had not previously sold a business, so the process initially felt quite daunting. However, having Sean on board made it far more manageable and transparent.

“He kept me informed throughout the process. The marketing was excellent, creating strong interest from the outset which enabled me to maximise the final sale value.

“The transaction process was handled professionally, with clear communication and reassurance provided at every stage. I would highly recommend the services provided.”

Competitive interest identifies the ideal strategic partner

The marketing process generated significant interest from prospective acquirers, resulting in a highly competitive process.

To maximise competitive tension, KBS Corporate implemented a formal offers deadline, with four credible buyers progressing through multiple rounds of bidding. This enabled the shareholder to compare not only valuations but also each acquirer’s strategic vision, future investment plans and cultural fit.

Good Energy ultimately emerged as the standout partner, demonstrating a clear ambition to expand its commercial solar offering while entering the Scottish market through the acquisition of an established highly respected business.

The competitive process also provided the seller with confidence that the agreed valuation accurately reflected current market demand and represented the strongest achievable outcome.

Expanding Good Energy’s commercial solar capabilities

For Good Energy, the acquisition represented a significant strategic milestone, extending its commercial solar installation services while strengthening its design, installation and aftercare capabilities.

The addition of Low Energy supports the group’s continued expansion within the commercial renewables sector, combining Good Energy’s national reach with Low Energy’s established reputation and technical expertise.

For Low Energy, becoming part of Good Energy provides additional scale, investment and resources while enabling the team to continue delivering high-quality renewable energy solutions and supporting customers.

“Businesses are increasingly recognising that the commercial rationale for installing solar is strong, even before you consider the benefits of carbon reduction.

“We have rapidly scaled our service coverage and capability and positioned ourselves as a trusted provider in the solar market. We will now focus on integrating and welcoming the team at Low Energy into Good Energy.”

Nigel Pocklington, CEO, Good Energy.
